Romanticism Vs Realism Opinion
Romanticism is a movement in the arts and literature that was originated in the late 18th century. Realism is the attitude of accepting a situation as it is and being prepared to deal with it. The Romantic Movement had one thing in common with the Realism Movement and that is their use of imagination and emotion. The artists and writers would base their work on beauty of nature or dealt with hopeful themes such as: Nationalism, Spirituality, or the goodness of mankind. It provided people with an escape from the challenges of the daily life during the Industrial Revolution. Realist art was based and expressed on harsh life. They hoped that through are there would be reform for better living and working conditions. Realist art were also known as social critics. In the U.S. they were known as Muckrakers because of raking muck. The social critics took on child labor, living conditions in slum, and and working conditions. Realist authors wrote fiction stories with fictional characters, but the plot was based on reality. I believe that romanticism is better than realism because romanticism was characterized by emotions, nature, and the exploration of the imagination in the mind. Also because it was motivated social action, such as the abolitionist movement, women's rights movement, and the drive for universal education.
